Vintage Burgundy Shibori Tie Dye Silk Haori
A jacket-style haori sourced directly from Japan, c. 1960s, and originally part of Karolina’s personal collection; as it has remained unworn for so many years, it’s a difficult but necessary decision to find it a new home! This garment is made with a truly exquisite textile: a beautifully textured silk that has been dyed with the shibori technique, an intricate form of tie die in which the fabric is wrapped in thread knots at tiny intervals to create this unique pattern. The resulting material has a wonderfully tactile hand, and is truly a delight to wear. The jacket is lined with jacquard patterned and printed contrast habotai style silk, with fan and wave motifs. It has two stitched in ties at the waistline. There is unfortunately some age related yellowing to the base ivory of the silk, which is most extensive at the shoulders. Please see photos for further details. This is less noticeable when the garment is worn. Cleaning has not been attempted on this piece, so some of the yellowing may lift with specialist dry cleaning.
