Vintage Purple Ikat Dyed Kimono
A vintage kimono sourced directly from Japan, c. 1920s. The base fabric is ikat dyed with zigzag motifs in purple and lilac. The silk has a relatively rough weave finish, not dissimilar to a dupion silk. It is lined with ivory and purple silk in the main body, and contrast red in the sleeves. Some of the original tacking stitch is still visible in the sleeves and can be easily removed if desired. Unfortunately There are some pulls to the silk sleeve at the side of the garment, which can be seen in greater detail in the photos. Despite the pulls to the weave, the silk is in strong and remarkably good condition for its age. Much of this garment is hand stitched with an impeccable attention to detail and craft. Please note that this kimono does not come with an obi or tie belt.
