Black Lives Matter - Donation Drive

Black Lives Matter - Donation Drive

EDIT 14/06/20: The donation drive and giveaway have now closed, and the winner has been contacted. If you are able to, please consider making a donation anyway to one of the suggested organisations below, or supporting one of the Black owned lingerie businesses listed.

I know I am not alone in my horror at the recent events in the USA: the horrific murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor are just two of countless examples of the unchecked police brutality and overt racism that runs rampant in the USA. That's not to say that these issues are unique to the USA; structural racism is absolutely woven into European society. Although it should go without saying, in an overtly racist world it has to be said: BLACK LIVES FUCKING MATTER.

As I am based in Western Europe, there are limits to what I can do to support the specific movement in the US; I've made what donations I can and I've written to my political representatives (on the topic of which: fellow Brits, contact your MPs about the continued illegal sale of 'non-lethal' weaponry to US police forces, it is honestly the least that you can do!). It's not enough, and there are few ways to help protesters on the ground other than with money.

Pledging a percentage of sales towards causes would be an empty gesture, as right now there are no sales to speak of, and I'm not comfortable launching a marketing campaign right now. Instead, I've decided to do a donation drive giveaway. I'll be giving away one lace cape and choker (worth up to 2870kr/$305).

How To Enter

To enter the giveaway, donate a minimum of $10 to a charity or organisation that supports black communities, supporting protesters and/or police reform.  Email me a screenshot of your donation receipt (with visible date) to info@karolinalaskowska.com with the title 'Black Lives Matter Donation Drive'

Below is a list of recommended organisations. It is not exhaustive, HOWEVER, I reserve the right to refuse an entry that I consider an inappropriate cause (for example, anything related to an 'all lives matter' type of cause will be automatically disqualified). I will not consider the purchase of a product where a portion of sales support a cause as a valid donation.

The Prize:

The winner of the giveaway will be able to choose one lace cape and one choker design from my current ready-to-ship selection, with a value up to 2870kr. All of these pieces are one size, and will fit a wide range of dress sizes flexibly.

Terms & Conditions:

Giveaway ends 13th June. Winner will be selected at random and contacted by email to select their prize and provide shipping details. The prize can be shipped worldwide, but due to COVID-19 measures there may be significant delays to some locations.

Every $10 increment of a donation will count as one entry, and I will accept as many donations as you wish to make. Donations must be made after the launch of this giveaway to be considered.

I reserve the right to refuse any entry that I consider inappropriate to the issues listed above.

What else can you do?

Even if you are not in a position to make a donation, if you haven't already, please take the time to educate yourself about the issues around structural racism and how to be an ally to the black community. This Google Document is full of learning resources tailored to how much time you are able to spend reading and researching. Again, this is by no means an exhaustive education, but it is a starting point!

Finally, if you are in the market for new lingerie right now, please consider supporting Black owned lingerie businesses:
